UVic Vikes to square off versus the University of Fraser Valley Cascades at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre this Saturday!

Victoria, BC – The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, are proud to sponsor and present the University of Victoria Vikes Men’s Hockey Club hosting the University of Fraser Valley Cascades this Saturday at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.

Puck drop for the game between the BC Intercollegiate Hockey League team’s is 12:30 p.m. Tickets are only $5 and will be available at Gate 3 on game day. Fans that purchase a ticket for the contest will also be able to buy a ticket to that evening’s Salmon Kings game versus the Alaska Aces for just another $5! Any students who attend a Saanich elementary school will receive free entry into the building for the afternoon game.

“This is a huge opportunity for our team and league,” Vikes head coach Harry Schamhart said. “Playing this game in the afternoon at a spectacular facility such as the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre as opposed to late-night games makes us more visible to the community and allows us to reach a larger demographic of hockey fans. We are extremely grateful to the Salmon Kings and their arena for allowing us to showcase our product.”

This Saturday’s game between the Vikes and UFV will be the third time these two teams will meet over the course of two weekends. Last Friday UVic edged the Cascades 4-3, and the two clubs will meet tomorrow evening at the Ian Stewart Complex at 9:00 p.m. UVic is currently ranked fourth in the seven-team BC Intercollegiate Hockey League.

The Salmon Kings host the Alaska Aces for a three-game set with matches tonight, Saturday, February 13th, and Sunday, February 14th. Puck drop for the first two matches is at 7:05 pm while Sunday’s game starts at 1:05 pm. After the game on February 14th, the Salmon Kings will present their final “Skate with the Salmon Kings” for 2009-10 season. Skates will be available from the City of Victoria by donation.
